Cinks fighting for a place in Krylia Sovetov

leave a comment »

After being released from HK Riga just several days ago, 20-year-old Latvian forward Ronalds Cinks has now joined another MHL club Krylia Sovetov for a try-out, reports LETA news agency.

Cinks was released from HK Riga as he did not meet the expectations of the club. Both the coaching staff and Cinks himself agreed on breaking the contract. Unofficial sources, however, were informing that Cinks was punished for disregarding the disciplinary terms of HK Riga.

Krylia Sovetov has also a VHL team, where another Latvian Sergejs Pecura is currently spending already his second season. In the recent years also Roberts Bukarts and Ainars Podzins (both now playing for Dinamo Riga) have played there.

This season Cinks played 12 games with HK Riga, scoring a goal and adding six assists. Throughout the past two seasons Cinks was also repeatedly recalled to Dinamo Riga of the KHL, where played a total of 20 games.

Cinks released from HK Riga

leave a comment »

HK Riga, the farm club of the Kontinental Hockey League’s Dinamo Riga, has announced that it has released 20-year-old Latvian forward Ronalds Cinks from the MHL club.

According to the official statement, he did not meet the expectations and both the coaching staff and Cinks himself agreed on breaking the contract. Unofficial sources, however, have been informing that Cinks was punished for disregarding the disciplinary terms of HK Riga.

In a short conversation with sportacentrs.com Cinks commented: “That is not true, I was not released for disciplinary violations. During the next few days I will have to sort out, where to practice, in order to maintain my physical form, and as of now I have no idea, where I will pursue my career.”

During the past two seasons Cinks was called up to Dinamo Riga several times and appeared on a total of 20 games, while this season he has played 12 games with HK Riga, posting one goal and adding six assists.

with 56 comments

This list was last updated in mid-January, 2011.

As some of the European leagues have already started their 2010/11 seasons and many others are on the very verge of it, I believe, it is exactly the right time to post a list of all the Latvian players, spending their upcoming seasons abroad. The current list includes 150 players.

This list is never going to be fully complete and that is why any additions or corrections are welcomed at the comments section.

Simek’s time in Riga ends

leave a comment »

After the second exhibition game of Dinamo Riga, forward Juraj Simek, who had a try-out contract with the club, has been released and is free to go.

According to icebox.lv, Simek is planning on joining the pre-season camp of AHL’s Norfolk Admirals, where he already spent the previous two seasons. Right before the camp Simek recovered from angina, which certainly affected his performance in Riga.

As of now Dinamo has try-out contracts with goaltender Edgars Lusins, defender Martins Jakovlevs and forwards Vitaly Karamnov, Ainars Podzins and Juris Stals. It is, however, expected that Martins Jakovlevs will play for HK Riga of MHL. Jakovlevs still has not played a single exhibition game for Dinamo.

According to Janis Matulis of the respectable weekly Sporta Avize, HK Riga has released another three forwards – Rustams Begovs, Mikelis Freimanis and Vjaceslavs Movko.

Metalurgs Liepaja becomes farm club of Dinamo

leave a comment »

According to the general manager of Metalurgs Liepaja Mihails Vasilonoks, after long discussions in the media, Dinamo Riga and Metalurgs have finally signed an agreement, according to which the club from Liepaja becomes the farm club of Dinamo Riga.

The details of the contract remain unknown, however previously it was stated that Metalurgs will not become a traditional farm club – Dinamo will be allowed to send up to five players to Liepaja, but it will not be able to call up players, who have a contract with Dinamo.

Another Dinamo Riga farm club is HK Riga, which is going to play in MHL, but, as MHL is an U21 league, Dinamo had to find a place, where post-junior age players could, not able to make the Dinamo line-up, could play.
